THE SCHOOL

CHARTER SCHOOL (K-8)

Charter School (K-8)

Branch Line School was founded with the intent to operate a school that children wake up in the morning excited to attend; to dispel the notion that school must always be boring, tedious or frustrating; and to create a fresh paradigm in which students feel free to explore and discover, and in which they develop a true and lifelong joy of learning.

Teachers at Branch Line School recognize that students’ different backgrounds and experiences mean that they do not learn the same things at the same time in the same way.

Project-based learning provides the framework for curriculum development, teaching and student engagement at BLS. Our teachers have experience and training in PBL and will facilitate as students determine problems or challenges in their community and, through a process of cooperative design, research, discovery, and reflection, present the product of their project.

Our K-8 program is divided into multi-age “branches,” incorporating grades K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8, allowing students to progress at a differentiated pace in content areas as well as social skills. The BLS program incorporates “just right” learning groups for instruction in core content areas. Students are given time to explore, discover and become comfortable with concepts, and then presented with intriguing challenges to investigate the next level of learning.
