Branch Line School – Grades K-2 Classroom Teachers
Branch Line School, is an independent, project-based-learning curriculum focused charter school in Livonia founded by area parents, educators and community members on the principle that education can, and should, be an inspiring and rewarding experience for students, teachers and families. BLS will ultimately serve approximately 200 students, including a tuition-based preschool program and a free public charter program for grades K-8 in multi-age cohorts. Elementary class size will average 18-20 students. Beginning in the 2015-16 school year, the school will operate on a “year-round” balanced calendar, offering a shorter summer break of approximately 6 weeks with more frequent breaks dispersed throughout the year.
Branch Line School’s K-2 teachers will maintain a joyful and exciting learning community that embraces an innovative, interdisciplinary project-based curriculum. The chosen candidates will be nurturing, entrepreneurial, creative, dynamic and enthusiastic, and committed to the belief that all children should be respected as individuals and encouraged to reach their full personal academic, social, emotional, and creative potential.
Responsibilities include:
•Provide instruction to Just Right Learning groups at the K-2 level
•Work in cross-disciplinary, cross-program teams to develop individual, classroom, cohort, and school-wide project-based learning plans
•Implement cross-curricular, instructional activities that contribute to high levels of student engagement
•Develop personalized learning plans, curriculum and extensions using principles of backwards design
•Instruct small, targeted groups and serve as an advisor for a group of students to help them achieve their individual learning goals
•Work creatively, transparently and collaboratively with colleagues, provide leadership to the content area team to ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning
•Ensure that the learning needs of all students are met by all team members
•Determine specific student learning needs by analyzing performance data
•Create formative and summative common assessments, as well as interim assessments
•Constantly seek to improve both personal and team teaching practice and results
•Welcome families into school with an open-door policy for family observation and volunteering
•Take ownership in the overall successful operation of the program by assuming responsibility in the shared leadership model
**Candidates should be self-starters with effective classroom management skills, strong leadership capabilities, and a passion for education.**
Qualifications:
Valid Michigan certification in elementary education: State of Michigan K-5, K-8 SCC
Technological literacy
Highly self-motivated
Strong organizer and innovator
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Special Education endorsement desirable/preferred
Early Childhood/ZA endorsement desirable/preferred
Spanish fluency/endorsement a plus
